Is the blog a fad like the hula hoop?

In my pre-teens, everyone in the known universe had at least one hula hoop. This is the known universe of a ten year-old boy on the streets of a tiny mid-Atlantic island. Still, the point here is the apparent ubiquitous nature of a fad.

Is blogging a fad of similar half life?

On a comedy favored by my son, a father was teaching his two boys how to drive. One of the props was a green hula hoop. So, there it was, not being used for its original purpose, but still there.

I believe this will be the fate of the personal blog, the "journo-blog", the diary blog. It will become a way for people to announce to the world the birth of a child, the opening of a restaurant or the cure for the common cold.

People will tire of telling an unlistening world every detail of their drab and mundane life.
