We have a thing in MA called Excise Tax.

It's a creative way for the government to collect MORE money. It is a tax that is only levied on owners of registered automobiles.

Allegedly, like the state tax on gasoline, it is for the maintaining of road. This year they, the Commonwealth, that is, want $180.00 or so.

I don't think that's an excessive amount to be in a civilization with paved roads. I've been to places where paved roads are rare, like the Northeast Kingdom. Paved roads are greatly to blame for the spread of the Roman Empire.

Being that this country seems to be slipping down the same path, from Republic to Empire, (see Gore books,) it's a good thing we have paved roads.

Then again...
